What will it take? Challenges Leaders face on all frontiers

I am a very nervous traveller and often times I can barely sleep on a plane. Coming back from Europe recently was not any different; as we experienced turbulence a lot midair. This blog was written at 36 000 feet above sea level in one of those moments when the plane was reasonably calm.

This experience is a lot similar to life’s journey. Sometimes the ride is quite smooth; we blossom and we can even write a blog mid-air. Sometimes we go through hard times and things get so bad and difficult and we start to ask ourselves some hard questions. Sometimes we even contemplate quitting as we can’t take it anymore.

In this blog, I want to zoom into those low moments and just dial in. I invite you to sit with the discomfort and really dig deep (this works better when you make time to sit in silence). As you do that I want you to imagine this…. You feel down and out and you ask yourself the question….what will it take for me to get back on my two feet?

The answer to this is often personal however I would want to offer some quotes I live by as my personal mantras:

  • “The comeback is often stronger than the setback”. Unknown
  • “Weeping may endure for a night; but joy comets in the morning” Psalm 30:5
  • “Our greatest glory is never in not falling; but in rising every time we fall” Confucius
  • “Getting up and moving forward is a choice” Zig Ziglar.

When things are hard I often meditate on anyone of these and I have also written them down and I often go back to read them for personal motivation.

Having said that I am a firm believer that we all have what it takes to claw our way back. I believe at the core of our comeback or resilience is SELF-BELIEF.

We need to learn to believe in our own capabilities and innate strength. Sometimes this can happen on its own if we give ourselves permission to dig deep. Sometimes we need to enlist the services or support of others like coaches to help us remember who we are and what we are capable of.

As a coach, I always put my hand up to clients to be their partner in finding their own solutions and remembering what they are made of. You are always welcome to click on this link below and set up a discovery call and we can explore a relationship of support and mutual accountability.

Coming back to the flying; when I mastered the courage to use the time the plane was calm and smooth to be productive and use my writing talents I completely forgot the turbulence and it is my wish and hopes that you learn to do the same.

Even at 36,000 feet, challenges can arise. As leaders, we face unexpected turbulence in our professional lives as well. Fortunately, there are strategies to navigate these situations effectively. Just remember that every good thing in your life requires you to Make a decision; be intentional and deliberate. In my view that is what it takes and unfortunately there are no short-cuts; you have to do the work. As you traverse this journey remember you can always ask for support and not do it alone.

Just believe and continue to put one foot in front of the other!!!!!
